Teaching Philosophy
"The ability to observe, analyze, and shape our built environment is a fundamental human capability, not a specialized skill reserved for professionals."
My teaching approach integrates evidence-based design research with hands-on making. I draw from my interdisciplinary background in architecture, science, and the liberal arts to challenge students to think critically about the complex relationship between people, place, and well-being.
Whether in a graduate studio, a community workshop, or an after-school art program, I am committed to inclusive pedagogy, believing that diverse perspectives are essential to producing stronger, more humane design outcomes.
Academic Appointments
Lower Art Teacher & Enrichment Instructor: Architecture & French Immersion
Designed spatial design and architectural concepts curriculum for grades 3-5, and kinesthetic French language immersion programs for early childhood education.
Graduate Teaching Assistant: Survey of Architectural History
Evaluated and guided students in an asynchronous humanities course, assessing written articulation of architecture as a historical and cultural product.
Course Creator & Instructor: Sustainable Architecture and Design in Europe
Designed and taught an interdisciplinary seminar comparing EU and US sustainability practices. Successfully navigated cross-listing across three departments and implemented a HyFlex modality to maximize non-major enrollment.
Teaching Assistant & Lab Instructor: Integrated Building Technology
Instructed the intensive core sequence (IBT 1, 2, & 3). Guided architecture undergraduates through complex environmental design modules, structural mechanics calculations, material assembly, and advanced computer performance simulations.
Teaching Assistant & Lab Instructor: Environmental Technology
Instructed undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on building performance, sustainable site design, mechanical systems integration, and environmental impact analysis.
Teaching Assistant: Philosophy of Inquiry
Supported doctoral candidates in exploring various paradigms of research, methodologies, and ontological frameworks in the built environment.
Director & Instructor: Architecture & Art Plastique
Directed community education center operations and instructed design thinking and manual fabrication exercises for diverse age groups, bridging professional design practice and community enrichment.
Research Assistant: Pedagogy of Business in Liberal Arts
